With the timeline of all social media platforms filled with Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan dancing for the Chaleya song during the Jawan press conference held recently, Khan revealed that he along with the film’s director Atlee tricked Deepika into thinking that her role is a cameo.
In Jawan, Deepika appears in a few portions and essays the role of Aishwarya, wife of police officer Vikram Rathore (Khan) and mother of Azaad (Khan). She gives birth to Azaad's character while serving jail time before she is hanged to death.
Speaking to the media, Khan said, "I would like to mention that I and Atlee sir fooled Deepika into believing that her role was of a special appearance in the film aur humne uske saath poori picture shoot kar li." He also recalled the time when he thought of adding Deepika to the film while shooting for Besharam Rang song from Pathaan.
"I looked at her, she was looking all dazzling and while looking at her, I thought, 'Ye maa ka role karegi kya?' I then asked Pooja, my manager to ask Deepika if she would do the part and within 5 minutes she said yes,” he added.
To the revelation of being tricked into doing Jawan whole film, Deepika said, "Whatever it is, I will always work in anything that SRK asks me to because we share a special bond since I started my career opposite him in Om Shanti Om. And as for the switch from the sultry look in Pathaan to the role of a mother in Jawan, I don't think any actor would think like how they would look in a certain role after doing a certain kind of role."
Jawan is currently ruling the box office despite getting mixed reviews. The film also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani among others. The film has music scored by Anirudh Ravichander.
