The release of Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif-starrer Merry Christmas has again been postponed. The Sriram Raghavan directorial, which was earlier slated to hit the theatres on December 8, 2023, will now be released on January 12, 2024.
The film’s production house Tips Films took to Instagram to make the announcement. They shared two new posters from the film along with the caption, "The wait is almost over! Merry Christmas is making your winter merrier on January 12, 2024."
An official statement by the film’s makers read, "We have made this film with a lot of love and passion, like every filmmaker does. However, with back-to-back movie releases and packed last two months of 2023, we have taken the decision to bring our film to theatres on 12 Jan 2024."
The month of December is packed with releases with the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal and Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur clashing on December 1. Although a Netflix release, Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies is dropping on December 7. Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki is also slated to release on December 22.
Earlier, Merry Christmas was clashing with Sidharth Malhotra’s actioner Yodha but now the Karan Johar production has shifted its release to March 15 next year.
Merry Christmas is shot in two languages, Tamil and Hindi, with different supporting actors. The Hindi version co-stars Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand, while the Tamil version has Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Rajesh Williams in the same roles. Ashwini Kalsekar and Radhika Apte will also be seen in cameos. The film will also introduce Pari, a child actor.
