The trailer or ‘Drop 4’ of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming comedy-drama Dunki was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochchar, Anil Grover and Boman Irani.
The story begins in 1995. Shah Rukh plays Hardayal Singh Dhillon aka Hardy, who, in the beginning of the trailer, gets off a train in the town of Laltu in Punjab. Here he meets ‘chaar ullu ke patthe’ (four stupid people): Balli (Anil Grover), a barber; Buggu Lakhanpal (Vikram Kocchar), a saree salesperson; Manu (Taapsee Pannu) and Sukhi (Vicky Kaushal), known for his flowery English. All of them want to go to London for a better life. SRK’s Hardy helps them and in the trailer we see these five crossing borders, travelling atop trains and in ships and battles foreign soldiers in order to reach their destination. Boman Irani is also seen in the role of an IELTS coaching teacher. The trailer offers a mix of sentimental drama, romance and action.
In a recent AskSRK session, responding to a question Shah Rukh had said, “I actually really like this….for a romantic hero to be wielding a gun so big in all films!!!”
Previously the film’s teaser and two songs (‘Lutt Putt Gaya’ and ‘Nikle The Kabhi Hum Ghar Se’) have been released by the makers.
Dunki is a JIO Studios, Red Chillies Entertainment, and Rajkumar Hirani Films presentation produced by Rajkumar Hirani and Gauri Khan. It has been written by Abhijat Joshi, Rajkumar Hirani and Kanika Dhillon. It will hit the theatres on December 21.
