Madhavan appointed as president of FTII society

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting appointed actor and director R Madhavan as the new President of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society and chairperson of the governing council, on Friday. 

The actor recently bagged the coveted National Award for Best Feature Film in the 69th National Film Awards, 2023 for his debut directorial Rocketry: The Nambi Effect. He succeeds Shekhar Kapur as President, whose tenure ended on March 3, 2023. 

Taking to his official X handle, Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs and Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur said, "Heartiest congratulations to Madhavan ji on being nominated as President of the FTII and Chairman of the governing council. I'm sure that your vast experience & strong ethics will enrich this institute, bring positive changes, & take it to a higher level. My best wishes to you." (sic)

Replying to the same, Madhavan said, Thank you so very much for the honor and kind wishes Anurag Thakur Ji. I will do my very best to live up to all the expectations." (sic)

Madhavan, who started his career with Inferno in English, and Mani Ratnam's Alaipayuthey in Tamil, is known for a number of films including, Minnale, Nala Damayanthi, Anbe Sivam, 3 Idiots, and Irudhi Suttru among others. He not only helmed Rocketry, but also performed as the lead character, Nambi Narayanan in the film.
